Owner & Level 5 Stylist
“I opened Philip Johnson Salon/Spa in 1992. Having previously trained in London, Amsterdam, and many educational institutions in the United States, I now focus my time on training and promoting my service providers in their career paths, as well as, spending time behind the chair taking care of my regular clients. I have been involved in professional organizations locally and nationally and have served as educational director for the Missouri Cosmetology Association.”
“This is an award-winning salon for good reason. Phil is the best stylist you could ever find. Everyone is so nice. Their products are great.” – Kathy B.
Level 5 Stylist & Aveda Ambassador
“I have worked for Phil at Philip Johnson Salon/Spa in some capacity since 2003. I am our Aveda Ambassador and love being the direct line to corporate for our salon! Color is my passion. As much as I enjoy doing all services, the color line we offer has to be my favorite product to work with. I am our in-house color educator and there is nothing better than seeing the light bulbs go off when a new stylist begins to understand Aveda color!
Continuing education is so important and I love to take classes, even ones I’ve taken before. You never know when you’ll pick something new up! I have studied under most of the Aveda global educators in cutting and coloring and love coming back and sharing my new knowledge with the rest of the team!”
“Heather is an amazing stylist! I do not let anyone else touch my hair. I have been with her for years.” – Linda C.
Level 4 Stylist
“I am a graduate of St. Louis University. After graduation, I pursued my passion for hair/beauty and furthered my education at National Academy of Beauty Arts. I feel I bring an unparalleled dedication to my clientele and pride myself on the ability to meet and exceed expectations. I have worked at some of St. Louis’ premiere salons and have received instructional, as well as, hands on training from some of Aveda’s top educators including Jon Reyman, Ricardo Dinis, Susan Ford and Tippi Shorter.
I have a passion for beauty, fashion, wellness and the ability to forecast trends in the marketplace season after season. When I’m not behind the chair, I enjoy cooking for family and friends, boating and spending time in Forest Park and raising my 7 year old niece, Elle Rose.”
“Sarah is a remarkable stylist. I LOVE my cut and color! Excellent service and beautiful atmosphere.” – Deborah B.
Level 4 Stylist
“I graduated from the Aveda Institute of Chicago in 2011 and have been working as a stylist for 9 years. My career first started in the beauty industry at 15 years old because I learned that I love meeting and talking to new people and love making people feel like “a million bucks.” Even though I work with all types of hair, I love doing cute pixie cuts or styling and cutting mens hair the most.
I was born and raised in Chicago and moved to St. Louis in October 2018 with my boyfriend and dogs Henry and Dory. I’m very excited to get to know St. Louis better and meet new people in and around the Central West End!”
“Vibrant salon, Lindsay is perfect. My color and cut has already received so many compliments! I’m in love and cannot recommend enough.” – Ashley W.
Level 2 Stylist
“I am a graduate of Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis. During my time there, I had the opportunity to take classes with some of the top stylists in the country including Fern the Barber, Noogie Thai and John Moseley. I also had the opportunity to do hair at Shutterfest.
Growing up, I always had a connection with hair and beauty. I was always playing with my sister’s hair and was dabbling in makeup by the time I could walk. I love to make people smile and feel good about themselves, so entering the beauty industry was a natural fit. I especially love doing hair color, specifically bright honey pieces, platinum blondes, balayage and I LOVE styling beach waves. I like making people look like they just left the beach. I also love a big transformation that can change someone’s entire look. Creating longer women’s cuts and curtain bangs are also a favorite. Overall, I just love making people feel good about themselves and giving them their dream hair!”
“Mady was great! My hair looks so fresh and natural. She was very quick and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. I would highly recommend Mady to everyone!” – Libby S.
Level 2 Stylist
“I graduated from Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis in 2015. After graduation, I worked at an Aveda salon for 4 1/2 years before joining the team at Philip Johnson. During that time, I studied under high-ranking Aveda educators for technical and business building skills. I am a huge fan of education and learning new techniques. I have always had a passion for hair ever since I was a little girl. I would watch the show What Not To Wear just so I could watch the hair transformation. I would cut my barbies hair, even my own hair, which made my mom cry. (lol)
I love giving people the chance to sit and relax. If you want to talk, let’s chat about your favorite Netflix show or whatever is on your mind. If you would rather take the time to relax, I’m all about a quiet experience. I love making people feel relaxed after a stressful day and seeing them leave the salon happier than when they came in!”
“My experience was incredible! Natalie was my stylist and my hair was so soft after she styled it. I got a basic cut and blowout and she did an incredible job. The salon had also taken so many measures to make sure the visit was safe. There was a temperature check, a mask offered at the door, face shields on all employees and social distancing procedures in place. I’m very happy with my visit!” – Carly P.
Level 1 Stylist
“Since I was kid I’ve been playing with my friends hair in the bathroom using stuff like kool-aid and cheap drug store color. When I was about 16 i started to think seriously about hair as career. Fast forward a few years and I’m now a licensed cosmetologist and a graduate from the Salon Professional Academy in St. Peters, MO. After graduation in 2016, I started an in-depth apprenticeship with Andrea Shumate. Under her, I honed my skills and techniques gaining real salon industry experience.
In 2018, I moved to Tower Grove South, ready to start a new chapter in my life and in my career. I have serious love for being a hairstylist, doing hair really feels therapeutic to me. Getting to talk to and listen to people’s stories is amazing. Helping people feel attractive and confident just by changing their hair is a powerful thing! I love doing cuts and perms!”
“Daniel is a miracle worker. He is very detail oriented and always cuts my hair exactly how I describe I’d like it to be. He cuts it in a way that allows it to grow equally, so now I don’t have to worry about it looking crazy so quickly. It’s like I can finally have hair that has well structured texture and easily maintain the style of the cut I requested until my next appointment. I’m also getting so many compliments!” – Colton S.
Level 1 Stylist
“I’ve always had a passion for doing hair. As early as age 12, I would style my mom and her friends’ hair before a night out. I originally went to school for medical technology, but I realized later in life that my desire to be a hairstylist was not going away. I graduated from Elaine Stevens Beauty College in 2016.
After graduation, I worked freelance out of my home for a year then moved to a shop nearby. I enjoy braiding, curling, coloring hair and I have a lot of experience working with textured hair. To be able to change how you look or feel with a new hair cut or hair color makes my spirit smile!”
“First time here and I’ll definitely be going back. Shonda did a great job with my hair. They have these “last-minute appointments” you can book online and you receive a discount. That’s the type of booking I like doing as I’m not the type to book for a haircut 4 weeks out. I’m horrible at that. So again, I’ll definitely be returning! And thanks, Shonda, for your excellent & professional service!!” – Regina F.
“I am a graduate of the Skin Institute in St. Louis where I trained in medical esthetics. My love for skincare came early in my teenage years and after getting a formal education in psychology, I decided to put my passion in skincare to greater use by becoming a licensed esthetician.
My approach as an esthetician is one that encompasses all of the scientific technologies in esthetics, combined with a caring & therapeutic touch. My goal with my clients at Philip Johnson is to provide them with superior service while gaining their trust as a professional. I love treating various skin conditions so, I’m always keeping myself up to date & educated in the latest approach in skin therapy & all things esthetics.
When I’m not in the spa room, I enjoy lifting weights, searching for vintage treasures at antique malls, & spending time with my son and two cats.”
“My first service experience with Laura was exceptional! The facial I received was extremely well-executed, professional and very relaxing. I highly recommend her and will be seeing her on a regular basis. She is very knowledgeable about her craft and it shows!” – Karen M.
Massage Therapist & Makeup Artist
“I am a licensed Massage Therapist who has earned my stripes as far as notability goes. I graduated top of my class back in 2012 and have been in active practice ever since. I have worked with some of St. Louis’s notable locals as well as celebrity clients through international agency affiliation.
From Reflexology to Myofacial Release, I am a knowledgeable therapist of the body who commits to further study as part of my service to the massage community.
Makeup is simply another natural gift that I share with a scroll of personal clients as well as referred. Natural makeup and lash applications are my nichè, but I am no stranger to bold color and excitement! I often adorn myself in my artistry to be the expression of beauty that people want to see. And it works! I believe that 100 percent of my makeup clients return not only because of my amazing talents but the added bonus of how I make them feel; confident and pretty!”
“Mesha was excellent, as usual. Her massages have been VERY helpful for the muscle spasms I’ve been experiencing.” – Marguerite G.

I love working with natural nails and have extensive experience with aromatherapy to help create a perfectly relaxing spa experience for every guest.”
“My husband surprised me with my first appointment today for a manicure with Pamela. I enjoyed every minute. Staff is beyond friendly and my hands are silky smooth! Scheduled to come back in 2 weeks for another manicure!” – Tiffany S.
